I was saddened by reading one of the initial lists of victims (one with perhaps 35 people on it, just a few from each plane had been confirmed by then) and seeing Ted's name on it. Bob Burnham had told me that he was rumoured to have been on AA11. Then the article in the L.A. Times with the quotes from his kids made my eyes well up. Oh why him? "Nutty Ted" as Bob and I called him (did anyone else?) was a fantastically nice person. To me as an "underclassman" he was always friendly and said hello, even though our paths may not have crossed as much as I wish they had now. In high school, when one is trying to figure out who one is, and at *that* high school where it could be very hard to be allowed to do so, Ted conquered the dragon and showed us, whether we knew it at the time or not, that alot of things didn't really matter. Am I the only one who will remember that blond haired guy in a vest? He seemed to always be wearing a vest of some sort. And I remember his wearing those thin 1980's ties; is my memory playing tricks on me? The last time I saw Ted, it was as I crossed the plaza formed by the "new" Harvard Square Red Line station, the one next to Out-of-Town News. It must have been in Summer of 1990. We stopped to say hello to each other and perhaps a few other words, but it was hardly the sort of conversation we should have had, or as I now know, ought to have had. Life reminds us all again and again that we need to treasure such moments, however brief, and not to put it off "until next time". But we forget, until this happens. For Ted and I there will not be another time, and based on what you all have written here, I am poorer for it. Thanks to all of you who crowded Common Street, School Street, and St. Joe's last Monday, I would have very much like to have been there. For his sake, let us treasure every minute we have with each other.
