In this evocation of the Holocaust experience, three actors express the pain, despair and occasional spiritual triumph of the victims, as well as the cruelty and defiance of their persecutors.

DIEHARD RED SOX FAN SINGS TO END CURSE

Los Angeles , CA – Comedian/writer Bruce Fine was just nominated for a Comedy Emmy for “The Wayne Brady Show”.  Now he’s written a song about an eighty-six year old drama - the Boston Red Sox.  “Last October was devastating, and the last straw for me as a lifelong fan.  I decided to personally do something about ending this “Curse of the Bambino”.  I really do think this is our year and the Red Sox Nation needed to have an anthem.”

“From Cursed to First!” is a funny and emotionally charged song that has an “Adam Sandler meets Eminem” feel.  It will debut on Boston radio stations on opening day, and is available exclusively at fromcursedtofirst.com, along with other curse–killing merchandise.  In honor of the last time the storied franchise won a World Series, with a star named Babe Ruth, T-shirts and hats are priced at…$19.18.

The Tao of Groove @ The Gig
By Jenn Cassie

The Tao of Groove is exactly that, a pleasurable experience that for 45 minutes transcends your reality to another space. One might say it's 'Electronica' but they'd be wrong. There's more to this group than their ever- versatile "Mixtress" DJ, Lisa Ledesma. There is little that is electronic about this band and what is plugged in to a power socket is so tastefully chosen and executed even the sampling is worthy of being called music.

Their first song "Makes You Extatic" is filled with instrumentation, as are all Tao tunes. The upright bass, played by Nick Morabito, and the cello, by David Takahashi, have enormous sound as each bends and compromises to reach natural peaks and promote fluid movements within the music. Jared Faber's guitar lines are well chosen and graceful. "Mulatica Mia" has a Latin flare and is sexy and sophisticated. The group has good energy on stage and features guest vocals and rap artist, Transcend, throughout the set. In "Cha Cha Cha 57" the band takes a simple sample and expands upon it at great length. They don't rely on it to carry them like many of today's top 40 artists; they only use it to enhance what they already do so exquisitely. Some of their songs like "Another Week" have a more funk based sound with Bryon Holley on percussion to solidify the groove. Smooth rap vocals and Roy Shakked's satiny keyboard lines layered over top create a sinuous feel.

One of the most wonderful aspects of this performance was that it never stopped. The band continued to play some sort of interlude between songs. It kept the energy flowing and added just the right amount of surprise as to what would come next. The band's hit in the set was "Maybe" with guest vocalist Andrea Miller. It's soulful, sexy and radio friendly….in a good way. It's one of those songs I can see being sung by past and future generations. Andrea's vocals are strong and luscious, pure and full of sensuality.

The Tao puts on a good performance that is refreshing to listen to. They appeal to all who are willing to step outside the normal realm and be transported to a higher plane. It might be a little far out to attract the regular loud venue goers but has certainly found a niche in our local music scene.
